A Bit About Me

The first question I'm asked after someone looks at my resume is - "Why did you move to New York?"

Simple question, right? But not such simple answer...so because this is my website - and this is 'A Bit About Me' - I can tell

you the story.

It starts with my parents. Having grown up in the Metropolitan D.C. area (Alexandria and Fairfax, Virginia to be precise)

I certainly was no stranger to New York - need I say A CHORUS LINE and "What I did for Love"? - my first Broadway show.

My story, however, begins way before that...

I grew up as an Army 'brat' - my dad fought in 2 wars and 1 "conflict" and my mom stayed home and took care of us 5 kids

(2 brothers, 2 sisters and I was the last to make an entrance). Prior to high school, my family moved around a lot and when I was around 5 years old, my dad took off for his second tour of Vietnam. One morning, Daddy and Daughter were going to have a Daddy/Daughter Day - we boarded the train and the next thing I remember was walking down 5th Avenue to see all the store windows dressed up for the Christmas Holiday. It was a really great day - just me and Dad. However, what I didn't know was that within the next couple of days, I would not see my Dad for the next 2 years.

Fast forward to my senior year in high school - Dad retires as a Full-Bird Colonel and it's time for me to audition for college theatre programs and this time it was Mom's turn. We took the train up to New York, stayed at The Warwick and I think, walked every inch of the city. Mom and I had the best of times (even getting lost on our way to BAM where the auditions were taking place). My Mom was my number one fan and biggest supporter (and was the one who signed me up for my first acting class when I was 11). She always said I belonged in New York since theatre was my first true love. My Mom passed away in 2009 and I miss her every single day - but for some reason - ever since I moved here, I feel closer than ever to her.  Thanks Mom, you were right - I do belong in New York...
